I have finally gotten around to editing out photos from the family vacay!
We spent a blissful week in Destin, Florida. There were a lot of beach days, but we did book a trip out to do a spot of dolphin watching::
It was phenomenal! The kids had seen dolphins years before when we travelled to Sea World in San Antonio, but there is something so special about seeing them in their own habitat.
We were lucky to see a Mama and Baby dolphin happily swimming alongside the boat (although we didn't get a snap of them)
In addition to the dolphin watching - the boat also had a glass bottom observation deck allowing us to see underwater. This part of the boat made me feel really sick, so I went upstairs to sit outside and left Jay and the kids to it. It seems they had a little photo shoot whilst Mama was away!
Photo by Maddy, on our way back to the docks::
After 6 nights in Destin we set off for Memphis (a mere 9 hours away!) where we stayed overnight. I had been bugging Jay to go to Memphis for the last couple of months, ever since I had heard about the Peabody Ducks and the Memphis zoo (that has a PANDA?!!!)
The crowds to see the Peabody Ducks make their appearance were HUGE! Maddy and Josh managed to get a front row seat on the red carpet and got to see it all clearly. I, however, only managed a quick glimpse of the ducks once they were in their fountain, hence the bad pic.
Jay assured me that I didn't miss too much as the ducks don't meander down the red carpet to the fountain - more like 'warp speed 9 Scotty' race!
They were cute though and I would want to go and try and see them again if we visit Memphis...only this time, get there a lot earlier.
The Memphis Zoo was amazing. Upon entering we headed straight for the Panda display and caught both panda's snoozing. There are amazing creatures and I never thought I would get to see a real live panda up close! So cool.
We kept popping back throughout the day to see if the panda's had moved or were even awake, but each time they had just changed their sleeping position a little!
Still amazing though.
After our zoo trip we headed home - a nice 7 hour drive!
It was a great vacation, full of relaxation, swimming in the sea, sand in our toes (and everywhere else!) amazing sights but most of all, great memories, many which will last a lifetime.
