This past Saturday marked the Annual British Curry Competition here in Tulsa.
Where, basically, all the Brits (and a few lucky Americans!) get together to make curry and do a blind taste test on all of them and crown a champion.
This year, we hosted.
The number of hours I spent looking for poppadom throughout the city of Tulsa, was actually, quite ridiculous - but in the 11th hour, I located some and our poppadom station was furnished::
My Love had been marinating his chicken for the curry for 3 days. He was prepped and ready!
Unfortunately...so were the other 12 curries!!!
I decided to abstain from making a curry - I had prepared the house and all the dips/salads so I felt ok about not producing an award winning curry! Plus, Jay is a much better curry-maker than I!
After all curries were sampled...voting took place in the designated voting area (God Save the Queen!) and everyone was on pins and needles as the votes were counted (who am I kidding, by this point everyone had had enough wine that I think they actually forgot the competition!!)
The winner was crowned...she did, in fact produce an amazing curry...even though she was an American!!
The winner received the highly coveted 'Winners Apron'
And Jay came second....which I think after a few beers he was more than happy with!
The merriment continued long into the night and English-interests were sparked when Jay brought out the English chocolate. (I have never seen a crowd gather so quickly!)
All in all, it was a wonderful night, filled with wonderful people. I am so happy we have found this little colony of English people out here in Tulsa who understand our love for curry. I am also so happy for the Americans that appreciate our ways and want to be a part of this crazy annual tradition!
