Its been a while...

We have had 7 weeks of visitors, spent 2.5 weeks at home in England and we arrived back last night....after 18 hours of travelling.

Today we were woken up after a mere 5 hours of sleep and the rest is a blur! I need to sort through the photos from our trip, resize them and do all that stuff...which I can't do right now, too tired and not enough common sense. This became evident about an hour ago when I ventured down to Walgreens to pick up a prescription I need for tomorrow and walked out of Walgreens with a copy of the new Martha Stewart magazine and a Rimmel eyeshadow (there was a vague thought in my head that I had forgotten something but that was quickly dismissed and I headed home...brilliant)

So I will sort through photos tomorrow, until then here are a couple of my snaps that caught my eye...not because they are brilliantly photographed or perfectly framed, but just because they show the love of a family together again...

 

He's back....

A brand new Elf came to join our brood the day after Thanksgiving. He was found early the next morning and the debate over a name for him started. Bob was an option but 'Billy' prevailed.

Our elf this year seems to be more mishcievious. He is forever getting into things that he shouldn't...

The kids have come down to find him using a strw to drink the maple syrup in the pantry and sitting in the bathroom sink holding lipstick with their names written on the mirror as well as enjoying some hot chocolate and donuts on the kitchen counter.

There are some great websites out there for really fun Elf on the shelf ideas so we have been spurred on to be more creative this year!

tonight I am thinking this would be very fun!

 

Homemade Christmas - Gift Baskets

Much of the items that I make to give at Christmas are sewn, so it was nice to take a break from sewing and dream up something different. I love the thoughtfulness of someone making up a gift basket tailored to your likes. There is something very special and unique about it. So this weekend, I made up three:

Breakfast Gift Basket

 

Homemade Almond maple granola recipe with blueberry syrup, spatula, festive tea towel, Grandma's Pancake recipe in a bag and recipe cards with ingredients and directions on for the mixes.

The pancake mix is just a blend of all the dry ingredients sealed into a ziplock bag. I whipped up the little white bag to place it all in and printed out the 'Grandma's Pancake Mix' label using this tutorial for printing on fabric. Sharpie straight onto fabric would also work just as well.

Little Girls Gift Basket

The next gift basket was aimed at a girl with an interest in baking/cooking. I made a really simple little ruffle apron and included a timer, measuring spoons and Chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar recipe

I found this great website for gift basket ideas there are so many wonderful ideas and another good resource when you are making food to go in the gift basket is this website which allows you to make your own printable recipe cards for free.

and now...back to the sewing...
