A few months ago - Maddy came home from school begging for some feathers to go in her hair. Apparently a little girl in her class had them and they were awesome. After a few week, when she persisted to ask for them on a daily basis, I finally asked around for a place where I could take her to have them done. I found a salon just down the road from us and we headed there, with a very excited Maddy.
We were shown a large collection of feathers, Mads made her choice of 2 and I watched as the lady pulled a small section of Maddys hair through a little bead, stuck in a feather and crimped the bead with a pair of plyers. I then handed over $18 for these two feathers.
Mad was chuffed to bits with them, and they lasted a good 2.5 months of washing and styling before they fell out. Mads then started asking for more. Thats when I researched these little feathers and found out they are actually feathers used for fishing! I also found a place to buy the Beads to hold the feathers
So today we made a trip to the Bass Pro shop, to get us some feathers. They don't have a huge selection and ours were all one colour, but there were probably about 100 feathers in there for $5.99 - BARGAIN! (They can also be found online here, here and here. )
They are super easy to put in, just tread a section of the hair through the bead, add the feather:
and crimp the bead with plyers to hold in place:
Mama also had one put in:
I think I am going to invest in some of the multi-coloured ones from Amazon also, but I have one happy little girl right now (with four feathers in her hair!!)
Aren't you stylish! I paid $6 for Reilly to have one, then when it fell out, she paid her own $12 to have two more put in. Those stayed for a couple of months!
So when should I make an appointment at the Salon of Dee to have MY feathers put in? :)
